I think that it was a great decision for both two bloggers. But as a blog owner you also can get many advantages from accepting and publishing guest posts.
Even you might don’t know, guest posts can kill your blog. In this post, I am going to share how guest posts kill your blog and how to accept guest posts without any harm for your blog.
Why Do Your Readers Visit Your Blog?
What is the answer for this question? Your answer may be, to read quality content. It is correct, but it isn’t the ONLY reason.
• Your readers love to hear your voice.
• Your readers love you writing style.
• Your readers love to know about your opinions.
So why don’t you give your own posts for your readers?
Don’t forget that if you want to be a successful blogger, you should give what your audience wants.
Are Guest Posts High Quality?
I know that some bloggers write high quality guest posts, but many bloggers write low quality guest posts even they write high quality posts for their own blogs.
You have to do huge research before write a quality post, but many guest posts are written without any research. So those posts might not be accurate.
Those type of posts are directly harmful for you blog because those type of posts can destroy trust of your readers.
Web Traffic and PR May Drop
Google’s view is guest posting as a selling links or exchanging backlinks. Google hates those type of works. Especially it might happen if you accept too many guest posts.
As well as your loyal readers also may leave your blog if you accept too many guest posts because they want your posts, not guest posts.

My Suggestion
I’m not saying that don’t accept any guest posts because you can get many advantages also accepting guest posts.
If you are still new blogger, my suggestion is, don’t accept guest posts until you build a good audience around your blog.
After building a huge audience, you can accept only high quality guest posts, and remember to accept guest posts only from bloggers. Don’t accept guest posts from link builders, but some link builders also write quality posts. You can accept that those type of posts, but the backlink which you are going to give should be related to your niche.
As well as try to accept same writing style(your writing style and writing style of guest post) guest posts. That means, if you always write in point form posts, don’t accept long paragraph posts.
Now you can share your opinion about accepting guest post as a comment.
Accepting guest posts is much challenging these days. And it is under discussion more often. I am ready with a post on similar topic and saw your post here. You are already one step ahead of me!

I have to say that I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I think that out of respect for the blog that people are guest posting on they should try really hard to write quality content, anything less is disrespectful!
I would think that if someone would like to show that they are a good blogger, even if they are guest posting, they would want to prove that by posting top notch quality posts.

The majority of guest post requests I get daily are of very low quality. Emergence of many new SEO companies (who don’t have any idea what they are doing) has a big part in this degradation of quality of guest posts. They just write some posts with 500 words (in many cases they just spin already published article) and contact blog owners. All they care about is getting their back links and never bothered about quality of blog posts. I rarely accept guest posts these days because of this situation.

This is a great post. Some guest posts can be very irrelevant to your blog. If you publish them without a second thought could damage your blog’s reputation.

Guest blogging is giving up one of your articles to support another website. Not that it is all that bad however your viewer may miss out on that post because it on another blog or skip over it. So in a way keeping your content fresh and relevant to your viewers is what matters the most. Guest blogging should be an after thought to your own blog and viewers. I have written a few but I just like my blog better and want the content there. It is a wonderful way to attract new viewers to your blog though once you have reached the peak. I am still looking at the mountain wondering how to get up it.

I completely agree with you. If the posts are not having quality, there is no point in allowing guest posts. That is the reason I do not allow poor quality posts on my blog. No wonder, I publish very few blog posts and more of my own writings.

Its really a serious point that you mentioned through this post. One should take proper care when accepting guest posts. Accepting guest posts just to increase fresh content on blog without knowing the negative affect is a blunder mistake. Firstly we should develop a community through self written content. later on we can think for guest posts.
